The Seasons
Packed full of memorable tunes, Vivaldi's Four Seasons is the most-recorded piece of classical music for good reason.
Vivaldi manages to paint an incredibly vivid picture of each of the seasons, evoking buzzing flies, birdsong, a barking dog, dripping rain, a terrifying storm and even a few drunkards...
The music is dazzling, particularly the solo violin part (Eleanor Corr), an incredible showcase for the instrument and musician, with the energy barely flagging for the duration of the piece.
For this very special performance the music will be further brought to life with specially designed dramatic lighting. We’re also seating the audience up close to the action, placed in a circle around the musicians, with the performance playing out in the soaring cathedral-like space of Stone Nest
The Seasons follows in the footsteps of our sold out performance of 'Sunrise' - early booking is advised.

Enigma
Scroll down to find out which Variations are our musicians' favourites!
Join Orpheus Sinfonia as we delve into the heart of orchestral drama and excitement in a programme defined by power, mystery, and revelation.
The evening begins with Joan Tower's Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, a vibrant and exhilarating opening that sets a tone of fearless energy. Followed by Richard Strauss's youthful Serenade in E-flat major for 13 wind instruments we then travel to the world of Igor Stravinsky's playful and witty Pulcinella—a ballet suite that dances between tradition and innovation. The program culminates in the ultimate musical puzzle, Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, a masterpiece of suspense and emotion. Who are the friends and figures hidden within its themes? Elgar’s enduring mystery and extraordinary musical storytelling ensure this piece remains as captivating and dramatic as the day it was written.
This will be an evening of electrifying and profoundly moving music-making. Under the batons of our conductor Thomas Carroll and Foundation conductor Alvin Arumugam, our musicians will bring this remarkable programme to life for you in the breathtaking surroundings of St George’s Hanover Square.

Sunrise: Mahler’s Symphony No. 1
Experience the power and raw emotion of Mahler's vivid Symphony No.1 like never before, in one of the West End's most atmospheric venues. This music has, to modern ears, the scale and scope of an epic soundtrack. For this intimate performance its power is distilled down to its essence, played by a group of 15 musicians, allowing the audience to be up close to the action.
With the audience wrapped around the orchestra, this dramatic performance will take you on a journey that starts in darkness - a foggy, ethereal world, but with that fog soon burnt off by the rising sun. Along the way, experience nature's abundance, a plunge into tragedy, dark-hued folksong and then... an explosive finale where the symphony truly takes off with the composer putting his foot down, accelerating toward an unforgettable ending.

Benjamin Britten: War Requiem
Musical forces from Imperial join Coventry Cathedral Chorus, Orpheus Sinfonia and the choristers of St George's Chapel for an anniversary performance of Britten's monumental War Requiem. First performed at the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral in 1962, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest choral works of the twentieth century. Britten's great artistic statement of pacifism is a modern classic, provocatively juxtaposing the vivid anti-war poetry of Wilfred Owen with the Latin Requiem Mass in a passionate outcry against man's inhumanity to man. It still resonates today as a timely reminder of both the horrors of war and the importance of forgiveness and solidarity for all mankind.

Ealing Choral Society: A journey from darkness to light
Written against the backdrop of the European war that followed the French Revolution, Haydn’s Paukenmesse (Mass in the Time of War) reflects the troubled mood of its time. Long thought to express anti-war sentiment, the Paukenmesse, with its bellicose timpani drumbeats and wind fanfares, forms a picture of a composer conflicted by the idea of war, who chose to close his Mass with the Dona Nobis Pacem, a celebration of peace.
Two contemporary works comprise the first half: The UK premiere of Strengthen for Service, an atmospheric anthem by young American composer Jessica French, followed by Matthew Coleridge’s Requiem, deeply moving and with beautiful, flowing melodies, one of the highest new entries in the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2023. The theme of service in the first piece, followed by the Requiem and then Haydn’s Mass make a suitable trio for a concert during the season of Remembrance, with a satisfying journey from contemplation to action.

Foundation Programme 2025-26 Season Launch
Thomas Carroll: Conductor
Nathan Meltzer: Violin
Foundation Conductor 2025-26: To be announced
Beethoven – Egmont Overture, Op. 84
Eleanor Alberga – Violin Concerto No. 1 (2001)
Mendelssohn – Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56 “Scottish”
Now in its third year, the Orpheus Sinfonia Foundation Programme is rapidly establishing itself as a centre of excellence for emerging professionals, working side by side with our Principals and guest mentors from across the industry. These concerts are renowned for their exhilarating performances and adventurous programmes.
This season’s launch features Beethoven’s thrilling Egmont Overture, Eleanor Alberga’s powerful Violin Concerto No. 1 with sensational US violinist Nathan Meltzer, and Mendelssohn’s evocative Scottish Symphony.
A former winner of the Windsor Festival International String Competition, Meltzer wowed audiences in our inaugural Foundation concert, and now returns for this dramatic tour de force for soloist and orchestra.
Performing Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony in Hanover Square is especially poignant—Mendelssohn himself played here nearly 200 years ago. With its sweeping melodies and vivid landscapes, this masterpiece promises to transport you straight to the Highlands from the heart of London.
“In the deep twilight we went today to the palace where Queen Mary lived and loved…The chapel below is now roofless. Grass and ivy thrive there and at the broken altar where Mary was crowned Queen of Scotland. Everything is ruined, decayed, and the clear heavens pour in. I think I have found there the beginning of my “Scottish” Symphony”
