Now in its third year, the Orpheus Sinfonia Foundation Programme is rapidly establishing itself as a centre of excellence for emerging professionals, working side by side with our Principals and guest mentors from across the industry. These concerts are renowned for their exhilarating performances and adventurous programmes.
This season’s launch features Beethoven’s thrilling Egmont Overture, Eleanor Alberga’s powerful Violin Concerto No. 1 with sensational US violinist Nathan Meltzer, and Mendelssohn’s evocative Scottish Symphony.
A former winner of the Windsor Festival International String Competition, Meltzer wowed audiences in our inaugural Foundation concert, and now returns for this dramatic tour de force for soloist and orchestra.
Performing Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony in Hanover Square is especially poignant—Mendelssohn himself played here nearly 200 years ago. With its sweeping melodies and vivid landscapes, this masterpiece promises to transport you straight to the Highlands from the heart of London.
“In the deep twilight we went today to the palace where Queen Mary lived and loved…The chapel below is now roofless. Grass and ivy thrive there and at the broken altar where Mary was crowned Queen of Scotland. Everything is ruined, decayed, and the clear heavens pour in. I think I have found there the beginning of my “Scottish” Symphony”
FELIX MEDELSSOHN
